CHARSADDA:

Charsadda DPO Shafiullah Khan has urged government officials and polling staff to ensure no undue pressure is imposed on voters during local government re-polls.

He was speaking at a meeting held in Charsadda on Saturday to discuss appropriate measures to streamline the electoral process. “All officials must act with impartiality and let people vote for the candidate of their own choosing,” Shafiullah said.

According to the DPO, no polling officers or security officials will be allowed to carry mobile phones in polling stations. “Section 144 will be imposed at polling stations,” he said. “Anyone who is not supposed to be at the polling stations will not be allowed to enter as this could influence the electoral process.”

The DPO added CCTV cameras will be installed at all polling stations to keep a check on illegal practices.

“At least 80 police officials and 10 army personnel will be deployed at each polling station to maintain law and order,” he said. “These personnel will also keep an eye on polling staff.”

Save the date

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced July 30 as the new date for re-polls in various polling stations across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Re-polls will be held on those polling stations where allegations of widespread irregularities were reported or the voting process had been suspended on May 30. At least eight stations have been excluded by the ECP as high court stays applied there.
