Rafique asks for early removal of rainwater
He said an Anti-Dengue Day would be observed on July 30 across the province
LAHORE:
Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique said on Saturday more rains were expected this year. He asked the authorities to ensure early disposal of rainwater.
“Stagnant water serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes that carry dengue larvae,” the adviser told a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Dengue Fever Control. He urged citizens to remove rainwater from premises around them.
“All government departments should continue their dengue fever surveillance activities,” he said. He said an Anti-Dengue Day would be observed on July 30 across the province.
Earlier, a representative of the Punjab Information Technology Board presented a report on anti-dengue activities of various departments being tagged on the PITB dashboard. He said android phones had been provided to Special Branch officials in Sheikhupura and Rawalpindi for monitoring dengue fever.
Rafique directed the departments concerned to immediately address complaints received at the Special Branch. He directed the Water and Sanitation Agency to be prepared to dispose of rainwater.
The adviser was informed that only five dengue fever cases had been reported this year. Of those, two patients each were from Sheikhupura and Multan and one from Gujranwala. They, too, have recovered, he was informed.
DCO Muhammad Usman presented a report about anti-dengue activities underway in the city. He said no dengue fever case had been reported in Lahore in 2015.
MPA Pir Ashraf Rasool, Health Services Director General Zahid Pervaiz, Additional Health Secretary Salman Shahid, Institute of Public Health Dean Moaz Ahmed and Health Services Additional Director General (Dengue Control) Syed Islam Zafar attended the meeting.
