KARACHI:
The Pakistan Swimming Federation (PSF) on Friday announced the names of the swimmers who will be taking part in the upcoming 16th FINA World Championships and 5th FINA World Junior Championships in Kazan, Russia.
The World Championships will also serve as the qualifying round for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. While the event officially starts on Saturday, the swimming competitions will begin on August 2 and will end on August 9.
On the basis of the performances this year at the National Championships, the PSF selection committee named Dubai-based Lianna Swan along with UK-based Anum Bandey for the women’s events.
For the men’s events, Anum’s sibling Haris and Muhammad Saad Amin were selected. The four swimmers will be accompanied by Punjab Women Swimming Association secretary Yasmin Ahmed and will leave for Kazan on July 28.
Meanwhile, the selection committee has also named five youngsters — Immal Ahmed, Anyushe Engineer, Areeba Sheikh, Muhammad Saad and Kawas Behram Aga — who will be participating in the juniors’ events to be held from August 25 to 30 in Singapore.
