Extremist educator: Dow Medical College official arrested by Rangers
He is believed to be involved in target killing, kidnapping, extortion and other terrorist activities
KARACHI:
The Rangers informed an anti-terrorism court on Thursday about the 90-day preventive detention of a Dow Medical College official for questioning.
The officers of the paramilitary force, escorted by their legal team, produced Dr Gul Hasan Zaidi, who is said to be a deputy director at Dow Medical College, before the ATC-I.
They submitted that the suspect was picked up from Gulistan-e-Jauhar after they received 'credible information' about his involvement in target killing, kidnapping, extortion and other terrorist activities. In compliance with the law, the paramilitary officials informed the judge, Bashir Ahmed Khoso, that Zaidi was being placed in preventive detention for three months under Section 11EEEE of the Anti Terrorism Act for further questioning. They submitted the detention order of the suspect issued by a Brigadier ranked sector commander of the Rangers along with jail warrants of where he will be kept.
According to reports, the suspect was held for financing and patronising target killers and other criminals.
Meanwhile, another ATC was informed by the Rangers about the three-month detention of Rasheed, alias Cotton, for interrogation on similar grounds. Both suspects are affiliated with a political party, however, its name has not been revealed.
