Hydropower: Rs70m grant given for updating feasibility study

Thirty three megawatt Harpo project to be constructed on Harpo Nullah.

LAHORE:
German financial institution KfW would provide a Rs70.43 million grant for updating feasibility study of Harpo hydropower project, a press release said.

An agreement in this respect was signed between the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), Harpo hydropower consultants and KfW during a meeting at Wapda House on Monday.

Earlier, a feasibility study of the power project was completed by Wapda Hydro Planning Organisation in collaboration with GTZ of Germany.


KfW has also committed to providing finances for a detailed engineering design and construction of the project after the update of the feasibility study.

General Manager (Hydro) Planning Maqsood Shafique Qureshi said the 33-megawatt Harpo project will be constructed on Harpo Nullah, a left tributary of Indus river in Skardu. The project is estimated to generate 187 million units of low-cost electricity per annum.
