Ongoing case: MQM target killer sent to jail
He was arrested during the March 11 raid at the MQM headquarters
KARACHI:
An anti-terrorism court sent on Wednesday alleged target killer Umair Hussain Siddiqi alias Jailor to prison in three murder cases.
Siddiqi, an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), has been booked for killing Rangers’ lance Naik Shaukat near the Suparco office in 2010 and Hussain Gabol in 2012. He was also accused of purportedly killing tea vendors Niaz Gul and Iqbal Hussain at a hotel in the Gulshan-e-Maymar area in April 2013.
He was arrested during the March 11 raid at the MQM headquarters and subsequently was taken into a 90-day preventive detention by the Rangers. Afterwards, he was implicated in the three cases reportedly on the basis of his ‘confessions’ during interrogation.
The investigators presented him before the ATC-I judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso and submitted that his custody in the said cases was not required anymore and he may be sent to prison. The judge approved the prosecution’s plea and asked the investigators to submit investigation reports at next hearing on July 29.
