US Consulate's female staff learns to apply mehendi on Eid
Surprisingly, the women pulled it off with reasonable skill in their own unique style
Mehndi is an important part of Eid festivities and ladies of the US Consulate General Karachi adapted to the tradition with great enthusiasm. The said women were dressed in eastern clothes donning shalwar kameez in colorful patterns. They even wore bangles for the occasion and applied henna.
It was fascinating to see the female staff -- who had never held a henna cone -- attempting to tattoo each others' hands with traditional designs using mehendi.
They picked a design and and struggled to replicate it closely. Surprisingly, the women pulled it off with reasonable skill in their own unique style.
Apart from trying to learn the celebrated tradition, staff at the US Consulate General Karachi wished everyone Eid Mubarak.
The members of the consulate spent Eid with a Pakistani family. They exchanged pleasantries with the host family and savored traditional Eid delicacies.
It was a new experience for them to exchange hugs, gifts, salaams and give Eidi to the children.
The consulate members also enjoyed sheer khurma- a traditional Eid dessert. They liked it and also asked for the recipe from their hosts.
