Metro bus: Commuters demand shuttle service
Travellers have expressed resentment over the delay in launching the shuttle service
RAWALPINDI:
The delay in launching of a shuttle service by the Punjab Metro Bus Authority (PMA) to ferry passengers to and from the main metro bus route has added to the commuters’ woes as passengers have to scramble to catch other mode of transport before boarding and getting down the bus to reach their destination.
Travellers have expressed resentment over the delay in launching the shuttle service and demanded it start immediately.
Government and private employees, who travel between Islamabad and Rawalpindi on a daily basis, said the metro bus only plies on Murree Road while they have to come from far-flung areas to reach the bus stations at various spots.
The commuters said they have to pay double fare — one for the local transport and the other for the metro bus — to get to their destination.
The PMA had announced to launch the shuttle service from Railway Station, Kutchery Chowk, Misrial Road, Chungi No 22, Said Pur Road, Abpara Market, Zero Point, Jinnah Super Market and Super Market to take commuters to metro bus stations but the promise has not materialised so far.
Most commuters said that the metro bus service was catering to only a fraction of travelers and its usefulness will only will be claimed once it became a mass transit.
