SSU personnel attack: TTP chief, others to become proclaimed offenders
Court orders investigating officer to complete the process
KARACHI:
An anti-terrorism court directed on Wednesday the police officer investigating the case of the attack on a bus carrying Special Security Unit (SSU) personnel to complete the process of proclamation and attachment of the property of the absconders.
Three SSU commandos were killed and 19 others were injured in a vehicle-borne blast that hit their bus on the National Highway near Quaidabad in late March of this year. The security personnel were travelling to the SSU headquarters near Hasan Square from the Razzakabad police training centre. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack soon after the incident.
Subsequently, TTP chief Fazlullah, the then spokesperson, Shahidullah Shahid, who has reportedly been killed in a recent United States drone strike in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, commander Muhammad Khorasani and other local leaders of the banned militant organisation were booked in the case on the complaint of an injured police officer. Since then, the police have failed to nab any culprit involved in the attack.
During the hearing on Wednesday, the investigation officer of the case, DSP Fakhrul Islam, informed the court that he could not trace the whereabouts of the absconding suspects as he submitted a report about the progress in the investigation so far.
The report stated that three witnesses confirmed that Fazlullah and Shahid were living in a house in a slum area of Sohrab Goth but left a long time ago. The address of the house where the two fugitive militants lived was also mentioned in the report.
After scrutinising the report, ATC-I judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso directed the IO to complete the process of proclamation of the absconding suspects and get the details of the property owned by the militants for their confiscation by the next hearing on August 1.
