PESHAWAR:

The FATA Secretariat has de-notified 47 villages from three tehsils of South Waziristan Agency as clear for repatriation. According to officials, displaced families will begin returning to their homes after Eidul Fitr.

According to a notification, tribespeople will return to their homes in 14 villages of Sararogha, 12 of Sarwakai and 21 of Tiaraza.

“Registration process is under way and repatriation will likely begin after Eid,” said an official in DI Khan, the district which has hosted the largest number of SWA tribespeople.

Military operations in the agency started back in June 2009, displacing 107,091 families. The IDPs mostly belonged to the Mehsud tribe of Ladha, Kotkai and Sarwakai who settled in neighbouring areas of Frontier Region (FR) Tank, FR DI Khan, and also in Karachi and Peshawar.
