Ex-LHC chief justice murder plot: Deadline to submit report extended

Initially granted three weeks for inquiry, the commission has yet to furnish its findings.

LAHORE:
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has once again extended the deadline for a three-member commission to submit its report regarding Lahore High Court’s former Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif‘s alleged assassination plot , The Express Tribune has learnt.

The PM granted the second extension for 30 days since the commission has not been able to complete its inquiry despite an initial extension to its three week stipulated deadline.

The commission comprises chief justice Balochistan High Court Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Peshawar High Court’s Justice Imtiaz Ali, and Lahore High Court’s Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman.


The commission has been entrusted the task to enquire into a news report published in an English-language daily, The News, dated September 11, 2010, regarding an alleged plot to assassinate the-then chief justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif.

The commission aims to collect, if any, evidence or testimony of the case, examine the case in the light of available information, fix responsibility on individuals or organisations responsible for the alleged plot and suggest means to enhance the existing security arrangements.
