ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan on Monday condemned in strongest terms the suicide car bombing that took place in the Khost province of Afghanistan on Sunday killing at least 27 civilians.

“Our deepest sympathies and condolences go to the families of the victims. The government and people of Pakistan share the grief and sorrow of their Afghan brothers, and stand in full solidarity with them,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.

Pakistan reiterated its condemnation of terrorism “in all its forms and manifestations” in the statement, saying that “such acts are deplorable and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.”

“Terrorism is our common enemy that has afflicted the whole region. We are confident that through coordinated measures Pakistan and Afghanistan would root out this menace from our countries and the region,” the statement added.

The latest attack took place days after first direct talks Pakistan hosted between the Afghan government and the Taliban representatives in Murree. During the talks, Afghan government demanded the immediate ceasefire from the Taliban. However, Taliban said they would stop attacks only on the guarantee of China and Pakistan.
