KARACHI:

A district court sentenced on Tuesday a man to life imprisonment after convicting him of murdering his wife over a domestic dispute.

The court found Abid Ali guilty of strangling his wife, Rukhsana, to death after the couple fought at their house in Bhens Colony in February 2013. His father and brother were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

According to the prosecution, the couple was married for 10 months and the accused used to torture his wife, as he suspected that she was having an affair.

The Malir district top judge, Farooq Ali Channa, who conducted the two-year long trial, after sentencing Ali to 25 years behind bars, also directed him to pay a fine of Rs100,000 to the legal heirs of the deceased. If he fails to do so, he will serve an additional six months in prison.

The murder case was lodged with the Sukkun police against the accused under Sections 302, premeditated murder, and 34, common intention, of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of deceased's brother.
