The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has announced plans to celebrate 'Mouhajir Culture Day' on Dec 24 in an effort to honour the cultural heritage and contributions of the Mohajir community.
The announcement was made by MQM-P Chairman Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui during a press conference at the party's Bahadurabad centre on Saturday. He was flanked by senior party leaders, including Dr Farooq Sattar and Anis Qaimkhani.
Siddiqui said that 'Mohajir Culture Day' provides an opportunity to showcase the rich history and cultural identity of the migrant community, which played a pivotal role in the creation of Pakistan. He described the Governor House as a symbolic venue where people from diverse linguistic backgrounds come together to celebrate their unique cultures.
"This day is a celebration of our national heritage," said Siddiqui. "Our ancestors were Pakistanis even before the creation of Pakistan, and we continue to hold that identity proudly. The quota system based on language should not divide us. Respect for all cultures fosters openness and unity, which are the real assets of Pakistan."
Speaking alongside Siddiqui, Dr Farooq Sattar spoke about the peaceful and inclusive nature of Sindh, describing it as the land of Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
