SUKKUR: A lady health visitor was shot dead by armed men outside her house in Soomro Muhalla Wagan in district Kamber-Shahdadkot on Monday.

Rukhsana, daughter of Muhammad Hashim Soomro, worked as a lady health visitor at Naseerabad Taluka Hospital. On Monday, she returned home from work and was just a few steps from her doorstep when three armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on her and fled the scene.

Rukhsana was shifted to Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, where she succumbed to her injuries. The doctors at CMCH asked her relatives to take the body to Kamber Hospital for the autopsy, where they were then directed to shift the body to the Rural Health Centre Wagan, where her postmortem was conducted.

Her father registered an FIR on Tuesday at Wagan police station against three unidentified men, but no arrest has been made as yet. Rukhsana's brother, Abdul Wahab Soomro, talking to The Express Tribune said that his sister had completed her master's degree and was a third-year student studying law at Larkana College.

Abdul Wahab said that out of six sisters and one brother, Rukhsana was the most educated and was working as a lady health visitor to feed their family of nine. My father is often sick and is not able to work and my mother is also bed ridden, he explained.

He said that three years ago Rukhsana married Abdul Hameed Brohi in Badah. Her husband often fought with Rukhsana over her education and the fact that she was employed, since he was illiterate, claimed the brother. The couple divorced one year ago. According to Abdul Wahab she was the sole earner of the family and was even bearing the expenses of his education. He said they do not have any enemies and do not know who killed their sister.
