Fourth Time in a Row: Another blackout in the city could create water scarcity

For the fourth time in a row, K-Electric failed to maintain the power supply continues active in the city. Major chunk of the city stumbles once again into the darkness, most areas are facing blackouts.

The breakdown affected large parts of the city including Malir, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Korangi, Defence, Federal ‘B’ Area, Manzoor Colony, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Clifton, PECHS, Shadman Town among others.

No official statement has been given by K-electric yet.


Yesterday night, K-electric supply company said that due to 99 per cent humidity in Pipri, the 220MW Piri-ICI power line was tripping repeatedly, disrupting supply to 10 out of 64 grids caused blackout in the city.

On July 8th, 2015 Soon after Iftar on Tuesday when the residents of Karachi were preparing for Taraweeh prayers, almost half of the metropolis plunged into darkness.

Meanwhile, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) spokesperson Nazir Mateen told The Express Tribune that due to power outage the supply of water from Dhabeji and Pipri pumping stations had been suspended.

“The supply of water to the entire city has been stopped,” he said and expressed apprehensions the power shortage could create immense water scarcity in the metropolis.
