‘Mistreatment’ Of Prisoners: MQM warns of protest outside jail

KARACHI: If the prison authorities continue to ‘mistreat’ prisoners at Karachi Central Jail, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) warned on Saturday that it will protest outside the jail. The party claimed that its workers are being tortured inside the jail and demanded an end to their ‘ill-treatment’. “The brutality against MQM workers who are in jail should be stopped,” said a press statement, adding that its workers sent on the 90-day remand are being handcuffed and kept in cells. “A lot of them have been sent to the jail are being tortured in custody. Apart from medical treatment, they require physical exercise but they are being constantly kept in lock-up.” The party has demanded the federal government and the judiciary ensure that medical assistance is provided to their workers.
