KARACHI: The International Al-Quds Day, also known as Jerusalem Day, was observed on Friday evening as a rally organised by the Imamia Student Organisation (ISO) walked from Numaish to Tibet centre.

"This rally is in solidarity with the Palestinian Muslims," said Ali Ahmar, media coordinator for the Majlis-e-Wehdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM). "Imam Khomeini invited Muslims all over the world to show their support for the rights of the Palestinian people on the last Friday of Ramazan because it is sacred and is considered the day when the fates are decided."

Different religious and political organisations like the MWM, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP), the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the Pakistan Awami Tehreek, the Milli Yakjehti Council and the Shia Ulema Council took part in the rally.

"The last days of Israel are close. The international community should address the cruelty and violations of human rights by Israel," said Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jaffri, the central secretary-general of the MWM.

A similar rally was held in Nawabshah to show support for the Palestinians, where protesters shouted slogans against Israel and the United States, blaming them for the ongoing bloodshed in Palestine.
