Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, who has become an international icon for Pakistan's struggle against polio, has said that front workers and female volunteers play a key role in the polio campaign.


Aseefa presided over a high-level meeting regarding polio at Bilawal House on Friday. Those attending meeting including health secretary Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, provincial coordinator for polio Shehnaz Wazir Ali, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation coordinator Dr Ahmed Ali Shaikh, Muhammad Usman Chachar, Dr Tomas Graien, Dr Temesgem Demeke of the World Health Organisation, Unicef polio head Adein O'Leary and Huma Arif.

The meeting was briefed that a total 30 cases of polio were reported across Sindh last year. These include 23 in Karachi and the remaining from other parts of the province. It was told that Karachi is currently completely polio-free while four cases have been reported from other parts of Sindh.
