LAHORE:

Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre Board of Governors president Saeed Akhtar said on Thursday that the government was establishing the facility at an estimated cost of Rs12 billion.

He said the initiative was being taken to provide modern healthcare including transplants to patients. Akhtar said the government had already allocated 50 acres of land adjacent to the Lahore Knowledge Park for the project. He said a sum of Rs300 million had been released on this account.

Akhtar said the PKLIRC would house the largest urology, nephrology, haematology and transplant centres in the world.

Akhtar said a sum of Rs6 billion would be required annually to run the facility.

He said the government had also made arrangements for doctors and nurses to be trained abroad from its own pocket. Akhtar said the chief minister had directed specialist doctors and nurses to be recruited for the PKLIRC. He said a state-of-the-art nursing and paramedic school would also be established at the facility. Akhtar said 500 students would annually graduate from the school.

He said the initiative was a futuristic mega project that every citizen could take pride in.
