KARACHI:
Intercity public transporters responded positively to the call of Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Thursday to not increase fares during Eid.

"Eidul Fitr is approaching fast; people will go to meet their loved ones on this occasion. Being the commissioner of Karachi, I appeal to you to charge fares according to the government fixed rates," he appealed.

Special occasions make people want to spend more time with their families, he said. Therefore, it was requested from intercity bus owner to strictly follow the official rates and not give the city administration any chance to take action against them, he added.

"The bus owners who will charge exorbitant amounts, their fares will be returned and a fine will be imposed on them," he said.

"A complaint centre will be set up in Sohrab Goth, comprising staff from the Regional Transport Authority and the traffic police. Apart from the complaint centre, citizens can also register their complaints at Commissioner Karachi's complaint room," he added.

Bus owners and their representatives assured their cooperation and willingness to adhere to the official rates.

Sindh Air-Condition Bus Owners Association president Malik Riaz Awan said that no driver will overcharge during Eid. However, the bus drivers demanded an increase in fares after Eid. The commissioner assured them that after Eid another meeting will be held with the relevant authorities to discuss the matter further. PP
