Consumers lose: NEPRA sent notice on gas surcharge
The petitioner asked the court to set aside the levy and declare it illegal
LAHORE:
Lahore High Court issued a notice to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Wednesday on a petition challenging the levy of Gas Infrastructure Development Surcharge. Judicial Activism Panel chairman Advocate Azhar Siddique said that the Nepra had imposed a new surcharge (expected to bring Rs110 million) under the head Gas Infrastructure Development Surcharge. He said the surcharge was initially meant to be collected from power supply companies, but had been transferred to consumers. The petitioner asked the court to set aside the levy and declare it illegal. After hearing initial arguments by the petitioner’s counsel, Justice Ijazul Ahsan issued notices and adjourned hearing till July 14.
