LAHORE:

Police said on Wednesday they had arrested a serial rapist.

Talking to reporters, Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) SP Muhammad Umar Virk said the suspect, Haroon, had confessed to raping 15 children. “He is a resident of Sialkot. He came to Lahore five years ago after quarreling with his parents. He is a daily-wage labourer and spends his nights at Iqbal Park,” he said.

Virk said police had been monitoring him since April this year. “On April 23, we received a complaint from a resident of Mumtaz Ganj that his 11-year-old daughter had been abducted and raped by an unidentified man. From the descriptions provided by witnesses, we identified Haroon and took him into custody. He told us that he had lured the girl to a secluded place and raped her,” he said. He said that police had conducted polygraph and DNA tests to confirm Haroon’s involvement in the Mumtaz Ganj rape.

“He has told us about 14 other assaults,” he said.
