Pakistan Peoples Party rejected rumours of former president Asif Ali Zardari’s marriage to Tanvir Zamani.

“For several days Tanvir Zamani has been appearing regularly on television channels masquerading as a PPP leader and at times even as a spokesperson of the PPP. She is not a PPP leader and such an impression is totally wrong and misplaced,” PPP spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said in a statement released on Tuesday.

“It is categorically stated that Zamani holds no party office whatsoever either in Pakistan or in its overseas wing. Any impression of she being a party leader or an office bearer is either based on total ignorance or is mischievously motivated,” he added.

Further, Babar blamed media for the rumours of Zardari’s marriage to Zamani. “A totally wrong impression is also sought to be created in the media interviews that former president Asif Ali Zardari has married this woman.”

“Rumours of Zardari marrying the lady in question have unfortunately been deliberately aided by the said lady. She has avoided answers to pointed questions and has spoken with a double tongue,” the spokesperson said.

Babar added the rumours are ‘not new’ and first floated on the Internet during Zardari’s years in the presidency in 2011.

“Asif Zardari has the unique honour of being the spouse of Benazir Bhutto and son in law of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He regards this as an honour for which he has endured vicious attacks and even jeers and ridicule,” the PPP spokesperson further said.
