Safoora goth tragedy: CM distributes compensation cheques among heirs
Representatives of the Aga Khan community thank the CM for taking personal interest in the case
KARACHI:
Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah distributed cheques among the heirs of the Safoora Goth tragedy at a ceremony on Monday. He gave away Rs500,000 in compensation to the family of each martyr and Rs200,000 to each person injured. At least 45 people were killed and six others injured when armed assailants boarded a bus carrying members of the Ismaili community and opened fire at them.
Representatives of the Aga Khan community welcomed the CM and thanked him for his personal interest in the case, through which the culprits were arrested within a record few days. They also expressed gratitude to him for constructing the five-kilometre road leading to their housing society, demanding the construction of another road connecting the society to Malir Cantt. The CM agreed to this demand.
Shah said he had given an ultimatum to the police to investigate the case or face the consequences. “My police is efficient and hardworking. They not only solved the case but made important arrests for which I gave them cash prizes.”
