Cricket: England give Patel Cup chance
Nottinghamshire allrounder Samit Patel offered opportunity to prove himself for World Cup.
LONDON:
Nottinghamshire allrounder Samit Patel has been offered an opportunity to prove his worth ahead of the World Cup, as he has been named in England’s 30-man provisional squad.
The squad, which will be reduced to 15 names on January 19, also includes Stuart Broad, who is recovering from a torn abdominal muscle, as well as Alastair Cook, Steven Finn and Matt Prior.
Patel, who had a great summer for Nottinghamshire in one-day cricket in 2010, finished fifth in the Professional Cricketers Association’s Most Valuable Player rankings after spectacular performances in both 20 and 40-over competitions.
