CHARSADDA:

The district leadership of Awami National Party (ANP) on Sunday gave the government two weeks to arrest those responsible for the murder of a senior leader. Dost Muhammad Khan, believed by some to be one of the last surviving Khudai Khidmatgar, was gunned down by unidentified gunmen on Thursday in the party office in Utmanzai.

Arshad Abdullah, ANP’s Charsadda president, was addressing the media at the office in Utmanzai on Sunday. “If the government does not arrest the killers of the senior leader within two weeks, we will start an organised pressure campaign to bring the killers to justice,” said Abdullah.

The ANP district leader said Khan Baba (Dost Muhammad’s nickname) took practical steps for the rights of the people. “Even though Khan Baba was almost 90,” added Abdullah, “The late leader was very active and would guide the local leadership.”

He said Khan Baba, like Wali Khan and Bacha Khan, rendered monumental sacrifices for the rights of Pukhtuns and party workers honoured their elders for that. Khan Baba was also a strong follower of non-violence, added Abdullah.

“We believe in peaceful protest and make all possible efforts to bring his killers to justice.”
