QUETTA:
At least six suspected militants of a proscribed organisation were arrested in two separate search operations in Balochistan on Friday.

“Acting on an intelligence based information, the Frontier Corps (FC) carried out search operations in the Sariab Road neighbourhood of Quetta and Turbat’s Absar area and held six suspected militants of a banned outfit,” FC spokesman Khan Wassey said.

He, however, did not disclose the names of the militants taken into custody or the proscribed organisation they are affiliated with.

Smugglers nabbed

Meanwhile, the FC forces rounded up at least 16 smugglers in the Shella Bhag area of Killa Abdullah district Friday morning.

According to the FC spokesman, the Railway Police called the FC Chaman Scouts for help against the smugglers who were travelling in the Chaman Express and smuggling goods.

The police and scouts rushed to the railway station but faced resistance as smugglers started pelting them with stones, Wassey said, adding that the smugglers held the driver, crew members and passengers hostage and forced the train to leave the station.

The spokesman said after the interception at the Shella Bhag Bagh area, the FC conducted a successful operation and arrested all the smugglers and recovered a large amount of items.
