Police officials told The Express Tribune an explosive device was planted near the main entrance of the plaza.
“The device weighed around 2.5 kilogrammes and went off around 4am,” said an officer of the Gulbahar police. “This caused widespread damage on the premises.”
According to the policeman, the plaza is owned by trader leader Haji Haleem Jan.
“It is believed this is yet another case of extortion,” he added.
Two arrested
Separately, the counter-terrorism department (CTD) has arrested two kidnappers who had allegedly abducted a child from the city. According a handout issued by the department, both suspects kidnapped Sartaj earlier this year and demanded Rs100 million as ransom.
“One of the kidnapers has been identified as Shakeela Bibi alias Sheila while the other has been identified as Shoaib,” he added.
Last month, CTD Hazara arrested a man who had allegedly kidnapped a child from the district. According to details, Muhammad Sadeeq a resident of Darra, abducted Wahidullah, the son of Dr Jan Agha. Wahidullah was later released after payment of ransom. CTD traced and arrested Sadeeq and he was taken in for interrogation.
