Gone too soon: An unwanted farewell to a head constable
Father of Nigar Ali speaks about void left by his death

PESHAWAR:
No father thinks he will have to bury his child. However, Haji Momin, a resident of Hazar Khwani, had to suffer just that. His son, head constable Nigar Ali, was gunned down on Ring Road earlier this week by two armed motorcyclists.
The void created by his sudden demise goes to show no death is a statistic; it is a tragedy which leaves an indelible imprint on the deceased’s family.
Ali is survived by a wife and five children – one of whom was born on the day he died – who remain shaken to the core.

A father’s pride
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Momin says he was always proud of his son’s achievements.
“I am a farmer by profession,” he explains. “Nigar was my third son out of four children. I am proud my son sacrificed his life for his country.” However, he criticised the government for its failure to arrest those who were responsible for the target killing of police officials.
“At least a dozen policemen have been killed within the jurisdiction of Yakatoot police station in the past few years,” he said. “However, it is unfortunate the attackers have always managed to escape.”
A deep void
Ali’s death coincided with the birth of his fifth child. Although the newborn’s arrival comes as a blessing in disguise for the family, the sight of the baby brings tears to Momin’s eyes.

“Whenever I see the baby, I cannot stop crying,” he says. “Nigar’s other two sons are just four and five years old.”
Momin can only hope his son’s sacrifice does not go in vain and stability returns to the province so future generations can live in peace and harmony. “I want the police to arrest those responsible for my son’s murder,” he says. “They must be taken to set an example for other miscreants.”
