QUETTA:
Five mortar shells fired by the Iranian border forces late Tuesday night landed in Balochistan’s bordering district of Panjgur. However, no loss of life or damage to property has been reported.

“Five shells landed in the Killi Nakar and Gorkadan areas,” a security official told The Express Tribune.

This is the third time in a week that the Iranian border guards have fired mortar shells in Panjgur. Thirteen shells have so far been fired in the district from Iran’s side of the border, without any casualties, however.

Panjgur Deputy Commissioner Mehrab Shah and the assistant commissioner have recorded their protest with Iran over the border violation.

Pakistan has repeatedly raised the issue with the Iranian government, only to be told that ‘the Iranian forces would continue targeting terrorists who are a threat to Iran’s peace, whether they are in Iran or Pakistan’.

Eight Iranian border guards were killed in April during an ambush near the Pakistan-Iran border. Sectarian outfit Jaish al-Adl had claimed responsibility for the attack.
