A disaster was averted by the timely intervention of the police, who recovered and defused eight kilogrammes of explosives planted on the railway tracks near the Kalati Khoso village on the border of Sindh and Balochistan on Sunday.
Jacobabad SSP Malik Zafar Iqbal confirmed the incident. Saddar police in Jacobabad have lodged an FIR against unidentified suspects but no arrests have been made as yet. An official at the police station said that had the bomb gone off, it would have caused extensive damage to the railway track.

A police team was on a routine patrol when it spotted a plastic bag planted under the railway track. The railway authorities were informed about the explosive material, and stopped the Bolan Mail and other trains at different stations. The bomb disposal squad was called in to clear the site. After two hours the bomb disposal staff defused the bomb, which was taken away by Frontier Constabulary personnel for investigation.
