KARACHI:
The Rangers informed an anti-terrorism court on Monday about the 90-day preventive detention of a suspect affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement for questioning.

The suspect, Zubair Gadi alias Kan Kata, a sector incharge of the party, was presented before the ATC-III by the Ghazi wing of the paramilitary force. The Rangers officials, along with their legal team, submitted documents containing the detention order issued by their commander and jail warrants for the suspect.

The Rangers contended that they had 'credible information' against the suspect regarding his involvement in extortion, kidnapping, target killing and other acts of terrorism. Therefore, the suspect has been grilled for three months under section 11EEEE of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The hearing of the case took place inside the chamber of the ATC-III incharge judge and lasted for a couple of minutes.

Meanwhile, a Rangers official told media outside the court that the suspect operated in the Mehmoodabad area and had confessed to killing at least 13 people during the initial interrogation.

Earlier, in February, Gadi's preceding sector incharge, Abdur Rafiq Rajput alias Kaien, was also detained by the paramilitary force on accusations of his involvement in the May12, 2007 riots when at least 40 were killed and hundreds were wounded in violence across the city.
