Young Moroccan surfers call for ban on bikinis during Ramazan

A group of young Moroccan surfers are campaigning to discourage foreign tourists from wearing bikinis on the beach during the holy month of Ramazan.
The group has displayed posters on the beach that read “Respect Ramazan, no bikinis.”
However, not everyone is happy with the campaign as it could have a negative impact on the tourism industry.

“It seems that a number of Moroccans do not appreciate that that there is a separation between their personal life and the lives or choices or others,” a local resident who works in the tourism sector told Morocco World News on condition of anonymity.
“It should remain so, especially when it comes to tourists who visit Morocco and contribute to the economy of the country,” he added, according to the newspaper.

Moroccan Minister of Tourism Lahcen Haddad stated that the tourism sector was going through a critical period due to political turmoil in the region.
