‘84% children in Balochistan at risk of contracting diseases’

Routine immunization programme along with a polio eradication initiative will be launched in Balochistan

QUETTA:
Only 16% of children in Balochistan are fully immunized, leaving the other 84% at risk of contracting any minor or fatal disease.

This was revealed by Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Balochistan coordinator Dr Syed Saifur Rehman at meeting on Tuedsay.

The meeting, attended by officials of EOC Balochistan, Extended Program for Immunization, Unicef and WHO, also decided to launch a routine immunisation programme along with a Polio Eradication initiative in the province.

Dr Rehman added that the “routine immunization program will be helped in terms of planning, monitoring and surveillance.”

EPI Coordinator Dr Shakir Baloch and other officials attending the meeting were informed that technical and logistics support would be funded by the government and its allies to ensure that the programme is run smoothly.

During the initial stage, the program along with the polio eradication initiative will be launched at the high risk union council as a pilot programme and will later be extended across the province.
