Promoting Agriculture: Punjab to give 25,000 tractors on subsidy

The government would provide a subsidy of Rs5 billion on tractors

MULTAN:
The Punjab government will offer 25,000 tractors to farmers at subsidised rates with an aim to promote the agriculture sector in the province. Speaking to the media, Assistant Director Information Agriculture Naveed Asmat Kohloon said the government would provide a subsidy of Rs5 billion on tractors. The provincial government has earmarked Rs19 billion for the agriculture development projects in the budget for 2015-16. Kohloon said Rs4.58 billion would be spent on the Punjab Irrigated Agriculture Productivity Improvement Project to resolve the issues pertaining to water scarcity. Similarly, for the improvement in the communications infrastructure in rural areas, Rs150 billion would be spent over the next three years and the road projects would surely help improve the agriculture sector as it would become easy for the farmers to bring their commodities to markets.
