Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr Farrukh Javed said on Sunday that people could save up to Rs200 daily by shopping for groceries at the Ramazan Bazaars.
He said the bazaars had been set up to provide good quality groceries at affordable prices. He said a foolproof monitoring process had been devised to ensure that availability of goods at prescribed rates.
Javed was speaking to the media during his visit to the bazaars set up in Walton, Kahna and Nishter Town areas.
Earlier, he directed the administration at the Walton bazaar to remove plastic sheets used as curtains at the premises to allow for ventilation. He also directed the administration to ensure good hygiene at the premises.
The minister later checked the commodities on sale for quality and also sought feedback from customers.
He also examined the stalls set up for sale of wheat flour to ensure that flour was available at the prescribed rate. The provincial government had announced a Rs3.5 billion subsidy package for provision of wheat flour at Ramazan Bazaars set up across the province.
Ramazan Bazaar arrangements reviewed
Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal instructed all commissioners and DCOs on Sunday to ensure the provision of quality vegetables at subsidised rates at Ramazan Bazaars across the province.
The chief secretary made the remarks at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Price Control convened to review Ramazan Bazaar arrangements province-wide. Gondal directed the officials to ensure that there was no shortage of any commodity at the bazaars. He said senior citizens, the physically-challenged and women should be especially facilitated at the bazaars. Gondal said adequate seating arrangements should to be made for them on this account.
He said all steps should be taken to ensure that people derived maximum benefit from the Ramazan package. Gondal said no laxity would be tolerated in this regard. He said DCOs should visit the bazaars daily to inspect the price and quality of commodities.
The chief secretary all directed the officials to take strict action against those suspected of hoarding and profiteering. Those present on the occasion were briefed by the officials via video-link. The members of the committee praised the Faisalabad and Sargodha commissions for taking action against those guilty of hoarding grams and pulses.
Ministers Bilal Yasin and Chaudhry Shafiq were among those present at the meeting.
