1992 Operation: Altaf recalls ‘black day’

The operation that started in June 1992 continues in some form or the other to this day

KARACHI:
Recalling the day when the 1992 army operation in Karachi began, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain called it a black day in Pakistan’s history. “June 19, 1992, was the day when an atrocious state operation was started against a peace-loving and patriotic party,” said Hussain in a press statement. Claiming that over 18,000 workers became victims of extrajudicial killings with thousands of others arrested and tortured, he said that the operation still could not suppress the party or shatter the spirit of its determined workers. “The operation that started in June 1992 continues in some form or the other to this day,” he added. Meanwhile, the MQM held prayers for its deceased workers at the Lal Qila Ground on Friday.
