Alleged victimisation: Court orders inspection of lands

Jatois say Chandios have thrown them off their turf.

KARACHI: The Jatois have filed a case against the Chandios over encroached land and standing crops.

The constitutional petition was filed by former federal minister Liaquat Jatoi, his son Abdul Karim Jatoi and brother Sadaqat Ali Jatoi against government functionaries, including Hasan Chandio, Sardar Chandio, the Mehar SPO and the Mehar SHO. They allege that the Chandios — in collusion and support of police officers — encroached on their lands and standing crops. They are heavily armed and the petitioners are not able to go to their own lands, they submitted.

The petitioner prayed the court for protection and intervention to save them from harassment at the hands of Jatoi’s political opponents in the present Pakistan Peoples Party government.

During its hearing on Wednesday, the Sindh High Court division bench, comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Imam Bux Baloch, directed the Dadu District Police Officer to appear before the court on January 12.

The bench also ordered the civil judge or judicial magistrate, along with the Mehar mukhtiarkar and Dadu DPO to visit the lands of the petitioners, inspect whether the standing crops of sugarcane had been damaged or not and whether the lands were under illegal occupation. After inspection, a report must be submitted to the inspection team member of the SHC. The bench, with the orders, put off the proceedings till January 12.
