Iranian embassy screens ‘A Span of Heaven’ for capital’s movie buffs

The movie revolves around the story of Mohsin, a boy who sells flowers on the crowded streets of the city

ISLAMABAD:

Iranian cinema is renowned for its simplicity and subtlety in execution. Iranian cinema has found its place in the world for mostly touching upon social issues and to promote this cause the Iranian consulate showcased “A span of heaven”- a film displaying the innocence found in the mind of an uncorrupted young boy.

The movie revolves around the story of Mohsin, a boy who sells flowers on the crowded streets of the city.

One night when he sits talking to God, wishing for the comforts that other kids enjoy, an angel appears next to him. The angel tells him that he can grant any of his wish. The child metaphorically wishes for a little “piece of heaven” where he can take his family and friends and enjoy the comforts of life.

Ordered by God, the angel grants him his wish and provides him with a little piece of heaven. He gives him a piece of cloth and tells him that whenever he wants to visit the sky, all he has to do is rub the cloth. Upon rubbing the cloth the child gets transported into a cloudy area.

Upon return, Mohsin tells his mother of his access to the heavens, who tells her greedy brother about this. The woman’s greedy brother coaxes their family to sell the piece of heaven to a rich couple who’re looking to add some amusement to their life.

Although hesitant, Mohsin’s father sells this piece of land in exchange for a bigger house. However, once the couple buys it from Mohsin, they use it as very expensively ticketed public space for people to come and marvel into the euphoria attained from taking a walk into the area.

The movie aims to contrast the fresh mind of a child whose simple wish is to experience joy, whilst older people use the same area to feed their insatiable lust for material gain.
