Dozens arrested as Rangers raid Sunni Tehreek Karachi office

There was no report about the recovery of weapons during the raid

Nearly a dozen men were arrested as Rangers raided the head offices of Sunni Tehreek late on Wednesday night.

Paramilitary forces rummaged through the offices near Civil Hospital in District South, Karachi, for over an hour.

There was no report about the recovery of weapons or other illegal items during the raid.


ST spokesperson Fahim Shaikh told The Express Tribune told that nearly a dozen party men were taken into custody by Rangers, adding that they were collecting and verifying the names of those who had been arrested.

"The raid was conducted when a programme regarding the arrival of the Holy month of Ramadan was being held at the party's headquarter," Shaikh explained. A score of ST leaders and workers gathered at the party's headquarters following the raid.

This is the second raid on ST headquarters since the Karachi operation began. On September 5, 2013, several ST men were arrested, but later released during a similar raid.

Rangers did not issue any statement regarding the raid, however, sources in the Rangers said that the raid was conducted after receiving information on the possible presence of suspects.
