Incompetent: ‘Murder suspect at large for seven years’

Scores of residents of Chak 106-JB Khichian Barnala on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against Chak Jhumra police for failing to arrest a man accused of murder in seven years.
The protesters, including a large number of women, children and the elderly, walked to Zila Council Chowk carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the police. They staged a sit-in at the secretariat of the district government.
Talking to newsmen, Rehmat Ali, a protester, said his three cousins had been shot dead by their rivals in 2008.
“We had registered an FIR and urged police to take action against the accused,” he said.
“It has been seven years and police have made no arrests.”
He said police had accepted illegal gratification to not pursue the case. “Those who killed my cousin roam the town freely and hurl abuses and threats at us,” he said.
The protesters blocked University Road by erecting blockades, suspending traffic for several hours.
They chanted slogans against the police and urged the CPO to take notice of the situation.
The Nishatabad DSP met the protesters and assured them that the men would be arrested soon and taken to task in accordance with law.
The DSP said action would be taken against police officials the SHO and investigation officer if they were found guilty of accepting bribe.
The protesters dispersed peacefully on his assurance.
