Corruption cases: EPI officials arrested
Commission alleged Afridi was accused of misappropriating funds worth millions of rupees allocated for the programme

The Ehtesab Commission arrested Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Deputy Director Dr Janbaz Afridi and storekeeper Zahid Ali Wednesday for misappropriating funds at the Directorate of Health Services. The commission alleged Afridi was accused of misappropriating funds worth millions of rupees allocated for the programme. Ali, on the other hand, acquired different contracts from the office of the health service director general for a fake firm Adil Enterprises. He allegedly embezzled millions of rupees for personal use. “We have also arrested Mines and Minerals Director General Dr Laiquat Ali in another corruption case,” said an official of Ehtesab Commission. “He was involved in illegally awarding contracts in the province and caused a loss of Rs500 million to the provincial exchequer.”
