DI KHAN: A dispute between two groups in Dera Ismail Khan district left three dead and eight others injured as police used tear gas to disperse crowds in the area.

Talking to The Express Tribune, a police official in the area said that a dispute led to a minor scuffle between Afghan shopkeepers and locals in DI Khan's Gomal Market on Tuesday evening.

A few minor injuries were recorded Tuesday night. However, the dispute turned violent when shops re-opened on Wednesday morning as two armed men opened fire at shopkeepers, resulting in three deaths and leaving several injured.

Police arrived as shopkeepers in the area began protesting and chanting slogans. Police had to resort to using teargas shelling to control the crowd.

An investigation into  the incident is underway.
