Secure capital: Safe City Project to be launched in October
Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said the safe city project will be functional by October this year to secure the capital from criminal and terrorist elements.
During his visit to the project’s control center on Tuesday, the minister said 2,000 cameras would be installed at different locations while 200 personnel would be sent to China for training to manage the system. The former govt had announced this project but no practical step was taken to implement it, he said, adding the incumbent government has been successful in renewing this project with a Chinese company at old rates. The company will look after the project for a year and then it will be run by NADRA along with the district management and intelligence agencies. He said the project will be extended to Rawalpindi and then introduced in other cities, adding that 2-3 minutes time for police response would be ensured for emergencies. The NADRA chairman said Rs200 million would be required annually to run the project.
