The National Party (NP) Islamabad chapter on Sunday announced to participate in the forthcoming local government elections in the capital.
The decision was made during a meeting of the NP federal cabinet as well as its district council, which was convened to discuss emerging political scenario in the context of the local body elections.
The party leadership also highlighted NP’s stance with regards to the federal budget and other significant political developments during the meeting.
The meeting, chaired by the National Party Punjab President, Ayub Malik was attended by Rawalpindi District party organiser Raja Jamil and NP Punjab Human Rights Affairs Secretary Rehana Hashmi among others.
NP Islamabad Chapter President Sidra Saeed presented a comprehensive strategy for the local government elections scheduled to be held on July 25.
The party has decided to field candidates representing middle and lower-middle class and those representing the marginalised segments of the society such as labourers, peasants, women and minorities.
Malik termed the federal budget anti-people, which contains nothing for social mobility of the masses, alleviation of poverty, employment generation, comprehensive health insurance and education.
The participants of the meeting termed the recent statement of ex-ISI chief Lt-Gen (retired) Hamid Gul calling for army take over of the government and abrogation of the constitution, anti-democratic and anti-constitutional.
