Death anniversary: Mashhood pays tribute to Mairaj Khalid
Minister says political consensus on PCEC a national triumph .

Education Minister Rana Mashhood said on Sunday that former prime minister Malik Mairaj Khalid’s services for democracy were unforgettable and praiseworthy.
He was speaking at a ceremony organised to mark the 12th anniversary of Khalid’s demise. When one strives with resolve and commitment, their political affiliation becomes secondary, Khan said. He said the initiatives taken by the former prime minister in the education sector had benefited thousands of families. Khan said Khalid was a role model for those with humble backgrounds.
The minister said good news had been accompanying each passing day despite the myriad of challenges confronting the nation. Khan said several countries including China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America had agreed to invest billions of dollars in the nation. He said the Zimbabwe cricket team had toured the nation and the Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket teams had also hinted at touring Pakistan in the future. Khan said the political consensus on the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor was a triumph for the nation.
He urged students to work hard and earn laurels for the nation and for their parents. Khan said nothing could stall determination and courage. He gave examples of students who had excelled despite hailing for humble backgrounds. He said the 125 year record of the Punjab University had been broken by a student who used to bake bread at an establishment. The minister said people of Khalid’s ilk were institutions that ought to be emulated. Khan also announced plans to upgrade the Akhwan College computer lab and establish technical education institutes for men and women in Burki.
Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Michael, Coordinator of the Chief Minister Talha Burki and officials of the Anjuman Akhwan-i-Islam were also present on the occasion.
