As the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) called for a shutter-down strike across Sindh on Sunday to protest against a “traditional, feudal minded and anti-development” budget, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Saturday that the federal government was committed to maintaining peace at all costs.

“Peace in Karachi will ensure peace in the whole country,” he told the media. “Parliament is the best forum to resolve the problems being faced by the masses. Strike is not a solution to any problem.”

The interior minister urged the media to play a positive role on the issues in the best interest of the country.

Late at night, the MQM’s coordination committee announced that the party would register its protest for half a day.
