DI KHAN:
Lady health workers in DI Khan have complained of minimal and delayed payments by the government for the crucial services they are rendering. Speaking to The Express Tribune on Saturday while on her way to work, a LHW Zahida said the government has fixed a measly daily wage of Rs150 per day for vaccinating children against chickenpox during an eight-day campaign. Although LHWs perform duties amid disturbed law and order, the government does not consider the risk they put their lives in for the drives, she added. Another LHW, Romaisa, said they are yet to be paid for polio campaigns conducted over the past seven months. For polio campaigns, the daily wage is fixed at Rs400. According to LHWs, Ramazan is around the corner and if their payments are not made on time they will have to face difficulties during the holy month. They demanded the government increase the amounts paid to them for the chickenpox campaign and release their unpaid salaries.
