ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court on Friday directed the Ministry of Interior to submit a roadmap for the removal of illegal slums from the capital after officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) sought more time to come up with their own plan of action.

During the previous hearing, the court had directed the interior secretary and top CDA, district administration and police officials to submit a plan of action within one week on the removal of slums located in the capital.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on Friday directed the interior secretary to come back with a roadmap in the next hearing. The directions came after the CDA’s lawyer Raja Adnan Aslam requested that the court grant more time to submit a report.

Earlier, Justice Siddiqui had remarked that because of the sluggishness of the CDA, people have illegally built houses on land where new sectors would have been developed, adding that the slums had become dens of crime.

CDA chairman had told the court that steps were being taken to ensure peaceful eviction from slums. The IGP assured that complete support and protection would be provided if the CDA decided to conduct a forced eviction operation in the slums.

Following the hearing, the case was adjourned till June 26.
